Education for Sustainability

On 1 Feb 2021, Parliament declared climate change as a “global emergency and threat to mankind”, calling on Singapore to “deepen and accelerate efforts to embrace sustainability”. We believe that schools and educators play a vital role in inspiring and creating a healthy, secure and sustainable future for all.

The Sustainability Institute is proud to be collaborating with Jaimie Cloud, a global educator and pioneer of Education for Sustainability (EfS) from the Cloud Institute. We are partnering with the Cloud Institute for Sustainability Education, which has been leading the work of embedding sustainability into curriculum from K-12 in the United States over the past two decades. You can download the detailed Cloud Institute framework here.

The Cloud Institute has also developed Standards, Performance Indicators and Assessment Guidelines for embedding EfS into curriculum, all without need for additional class time. [For more information on the movement, download the EfS Infographics PDF

In March 2021, Jaimie led a webinar where she spoke to educators and students in Singapore about her decades of experience bringing sustainability into schools, governments and civic organisations and the role of educators in inspiring systemic change.

In July and August, the Sustainability Institute hosted the Foundations of EfS programme to champion the work of Education for Sustainability (EfS) here in Singapore and start building our own local EfS Community.
