Shang graduated from the National University of Singapore
with a Bachelor of Engineering (Electrical & Electronics)
and holds a Masters of Business Administration (M.B.A.)
from the University of Hull, United Kingdom. As a strategy
consultant and executive coach, Shang enjoys helping
organisations and individuals discover their core purpose
and potential.
Shang began his professional career as a Sales Engineer
in 1990 with the Semiconductors Division of the Royal
Dutch Philips in Singapore. During his stint, he held
several appointments, including Senior Sales Manager,
Business Development Manager, and subsequently as Senior
Manager for Strategic Planning and Organisation Development
where he had to design and facilitate strategic planning
efforts to align the teams across the Asia Pacific.
His role also included the research and identification
of macro signposts, reviewing of key customer business
plans, as well as the collection and analysis of market
intelligence.
At the same time, as an Organisation Development manager,
he was a strong advocate for people development and
employee engagement. He helped to review and establish
relevant metrics to ensure that the organization balanced
both long-term and short-term outcomes. In his time
with the Division, he worked to foster a forward-looking
organization, one that is tuned in to external market
changes and at the same time, well-aligned with the
internal strategic goals of the organization.
Shang’s extensive business development experience
brought him to Vietnam and Pakistan, where he helped
to establish autonomous and operational entities in
these emerging markets. This included the creation of
a comprehensive representation of Philips Semiconductors’
sales and marketing operations in emerging markets and
the identification of new business opportunities.
As a strategic planning consultant and advisor, Shang
consults with clients both in the public and private
sector in helping them design and establish strategic
planning processes that involve multiple stakeholders.
His recent project with the National Trades Union Congress
involved the designing of processes for engaging the
different entities of the Singapore labour movement
towards the vision of LM2011.
He has participated as a volunteer of a national-level
Feedback taskforce with an agenda to improve Primary
School Education in Singapore, organized by the Ministry
of Community Development, Youth and Sports (MCYS). With
an astute interest in the sports, he loves swimming,
golf and a good game of soccer with his son.
